The book of James has been a challenge to my heart and life since I started studying it in December. It was then that God laid the vision on my heart of us being a church that is driven to ENGAGE in God’s plan for us. Even this week the follow up conversations from what we are finding in God’s Word have been energizing to the core. I am dumbfounded about how God is speaking and working in lives.
I want to dare you to ENGAGE. Be the church; commit to grow. We live in a world that wants us to disengage from God and the things that really matter, but we must be vigilant and faithful in pursuing Christ. This is why I love the word ENGAGE – its active, not passive; it promotes faithfulness, not self-centeredness; and its honoring to Christ – His character and His commands. To engage is to follow Jesus. I am going to encourage that we engage in three key areas: relationally, locally, and globally.
To ENGAGE Relationally calls on us to build relationships that help us grow in our faith; it’s the discipling concept that Jesus told us to build the church on. Its taking time for others and for love, the Word, and personal relationships.
To ENGAGE Locally is us as the church realizing we are called to be a light: to reach out and engage people outside the walls of our church to allow Jesus to be seen and known. Lets take every opportunity to impact our friends, family, those we work with, and our communities.
To ENGAGE Globally is to have an active role in reaching the world. Engaging in this way means caring, praying, and financially supporting gospel spreading/Church growth projects around the world. These three areas are all part of what Jesus calls us to have a role in.
You and I can and must ENGAGE. Together lets target these areas this year and ask God to help us ENGAGE our lives in His Word and His work. There is nothing more important than following God with our lives and God’s gift of the church provides a way for us to do it together. God bless you and may God bless us as we ENGAGE in Him and His purposes this year.
