Monday's Moment in the Word with Pastor Tom

Luke 15 - Do you ever lose something valuable? You enter into panic mode searching until you find your treasured belonging. Those who know me best – know what it is that I often lose. The funny thing is that I don’t know that I lost it until I need it. Can you guess what it is that I lose?

In today’s passage there are 3 short stories about 3 different lost items: a sheep, a coin, and a son. With each story there is a longing to find what was lost. Then when all are returned back, there is amazing joy experienced.

Of course the stories relate to the Kingdom. Jesus is letting us know that there is joy in heaven over just one person that has been redeemed because they repented. The angels rejoice and so should we. The people who were reunited with their items: the sheep, the coin, and their son were so thrilled they let everyone know about it.

What was it Jesus was highlighting? For sure He was telling us to be joyful about people’s salvation, but in each story he states truths about repentance – Go back and read them and see what he is teaching on this important truth.

Kids which story was your favorite? Do you ever lose something. Today your challenge is to go get a soccer ball and have your Mom or Dad hide it from you somewhere in the house and then have them keep track of how long it took to find it. Then talk about how you would feel if you lost a sheep, a valuable coin, or a son.
